Tigers improve to 2-1, defeat W&L 1-0

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 8, 2012) – A first-half goal by senior Bess Goodman proved to be the difference, as the Sewanee women's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Washington & Lee, Saturday, at Puett Field.

After neither team converted their scoring chances early, Sewanee added its goal after a W&L foul. On the ensuing free kick, senior Sam Hutton served a pass into the box where Goodman redirected the ball past the General's goalkeeper.

Despite being outshot 11-9, Sewanee hung tough behind an outstanding performance from Megan Poole. In her first action as goalkeeper, Poole made a number of critical saves, including one with four seconds left.

The Tigers close their four-match homestand, Sunday, against Transylvania. That match is scheduled to kickoff at 2:00 p.m.
