SEWANEE, Tenn. – Pope Scurlock tallied the opener and the game-winner, while Stella Martin converted on a penalty kick, as the Sewanee Tigers won on the road, 3-1, at Maryville College on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 2-0-1 in the SAA.

Sewanee led in shot attempts, taking 23 while conceding only 10 for the Scots, while also holding a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Tigers also earned nine corner kicks, while Maryville took just three.

Ashley Vinck recorded four saves for Sewanee.

In the 37th minute, Maryville's Elly Leander intercepted a cross from Lauren Hill, but Pope Scurlock recovered the ball off the touch and found the bottom-right side of the net.

The Scots equalized the match in the 47th. Madison McDonald volleyed the ball from the right side of the box, locating Katie Cotton at the six-yard line for a header.

But less than two minutes later, Amelia Comeaux crossed the ball into the penalty area toward Scurlock, who took one touch for a bouncing ball into the left side of the net.

With just under 35 minutes remaining, Maryville was called for a foul against Lauren Hill in the area. Stella Martin converted the penalty, connecting with the right side of the goal.

The Tigers travel to Danville, Kentucky on Sunday, October 18 for another SAA match. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT.
