SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 21, 2012) – Behind 12 first half goals, the Sewanee women's lacrosse team topped SCAC foe Millsaps 18-8, Saturday, at the Tiger IM Field.
With the win, Sewanee closed out its regular season with a 10-5 overall record and a 4-1 mark in league play. Colorado College and Centre also finished 4-1 this spring in league action.
After the Majors and Tigers traded goals to start the match, Sewanee took control. Molly Arnold, Shelby Bartlett and Page Carpenter put the Tigers up 5-2 with 17:58 remaining in the half.
Millsaps briefly cut into the deficit when Haleigh Williams scored her second goal to make it 5-3. From there, Sewanee dominated the rest of the half, after the Tigers outscored Millsaps, 7-1.
In the second half, things stayed the same after the Tigers scored the first three goals. With 9:02 left, Mallory Grimm extended Sewanee's lead to 16-7 with her third goal of the match.
Moments later, Carpenter and Brita Brudvig added two more goals, which capped off the scoring for Sewanee.
Grimm, who netted three goals on three shots, led the Sewanee attack. Additionally, Arnold (two), Brudvig, Carpenter (two), Shelby Koebley, Olivia Vietor (two), Bartlett, Sally Anne Greenwood (two), Meg Welton (two) and Caitlin-Jean Juricic (two) also added goals.
The Tigers will now take one week off before hosting the 2012 SCAC Championships at McGee Field at Harris Stadium.
