SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 20, 2012) – Led by senior
Page Carpenter, the Sewanee women's lacrosse team cruised to a convincing 19-8 win over SCAC foe Birmingham-Southern Friday, at McGee Field at Harris Stadium.
The win improved the Tigers to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in league action. With the loss, BSC fell to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
After honoring seniors Carpenter,
Meg Welton,
Amy Nusbaum,
Sarah Squire,
Shelby Bartlett and
Molly Farmer, Sewanee jumped out to a quick lead in the first half.
After each team netted a goal over the first five minutes of play, the Tigers dominated the remainder of the half by a 7-1 margin.
In the second half, Sewanee continued to pour it on. The Tigers added 12 more goals after
Molly Arnold, Bartlett,
Olivia Vietor, Welton,
Ellie Murphy, Carpenter,
Brita Brudvig and
Bradley Moody all found the back of the cage.
Overall, Sewanee dominated the Panthers in shots, 42-30. Individually, Carpenter and Arnold finished with a game-high four goals each.
Defensively, Nusbaum finished the afternoon with 13 saves in 60 minutes of action.
The Tigers will quickly return to action with a noon match against Millsaps, Saturday
