SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 15, 2012) – Behind a strong second half, the Sewanee women's lacrosse team pulled away from Greensboro College for a 20-17 win Thursday afternoon, at Harris Stadium.
With the win, the Tigers improved their overall record to 5-1. Sewanee also remains unbeaten at home this season.
As play got underway, Sewanee led by two at halftime, 10-8, after
Olivia Vietor and
Meg Welton scored two first-half goals.
In the second half, the Tigers added one goal before lightning delayed the match for almost an hour.
After the postponement, Sewanee came out strong. The Tigers scored nine goals, including three by Welton.
In addition to Welton and Vietor, Sewanee got multiple goals from
Molly Arnold,
Page Carpenter,
Anna Morrow, and
Mallory Grimm. On defense, Sewanee goalkeeper
Amy Nusbaum made six saves for her fifth win.
The Tigers will now take their strong record west to California. Sewanee opens a four-game road trip against Kenyon in Redlands, Calif., Saturday at 2 pm.
