Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Oct. 19, 2012) – The Sewanee men's soccer team earned its first victory since September 21st, as the Tigers defeated Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes 2-1, Friday night, at the Lynx Soccer Field.
On the Tigers' first shot of the match, Ford Rushton put Sewanee up 1-0 with a goal in the 20th minute.
Over the next 53 minutes, each team played evenly as the Tigers had five shots to the Lynx four.
After a foul by the Tigers, Sewanee stayed aggressive with its attack as Nate Owens converted a goal off a beautiful pass from Samuel Edoung-Biyo.
Rhodes eventually got on the board, when Jason Cruther headed in a pass from Will Porter.
Despite 19 shots by Rhodes, the Tiger defense allowed only six attempts on goal. Individually, freshman Jacob Zalewski made five saves while Owens and Rushton led the offense with two shot attempts.
Sewanee will look for success again Sunday, when the Tigers travel to Conway, Ark., for a 2:00 p.m., match at Hendrix.
