White leads Tigers to 3-0 victory over Southern Virginia

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Grayson White scored a goal and added two assists as Sewanee defeated Southern Virginia, 3-0, on Friday night in men's soccer action. 

Sewanee came out strong, firing eight shots, including four on goal, while holding Southern Virginia without a shot in the opening 21 minutes. Play was then halted by a weather delay with 24 minutes remaining in the first half. 

Following the delay, the Tigers quickly regained their momentum. After Sewanee drew a handball just outside the Southern Virginia box, White stepped up for the free kick and sent his shot around the wall and into the back of the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. 

Nine and a half minutes into the second half, Sewanee doubled its advantage. The Tigers worked the ball out of the back and down the sideline before White slipped a pass through the Knights' defense to Thomas McGowan, who calmly finished past the Southern Virginia goalkeeper.

Just two minutes later, McGowan drew another free kick, and White quickly played the ball into the box to find Luke Manley. Manley finished past the keeper to give Sewanee a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Tigers controlled play throughout the match, outshooting Southern Virginia, 23-2, while placing 12 shots on goal and holding the Knights without a shot on frame. Sewanee also earned eight corner kicks while conceding none.

Sewanee returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 6, traveling to (RV) Hampden-Sydney for a noon ET/11 a.m. CT kickoff.
