Women's lacrosse goes 2-0 on the day with victories against Berry and Agnes Scott

The Sewanee women's lacrosse team narrowly defeated Berry College 17-15 in their morning game, then overpowered Agnes Scott 20-4 in their afternoon matchup. With the wins, the Tigers extend their win streak to five straight.
Senior Megan Velie (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's Belfield), junior Meg Welton (Germantown, Tenn., Houston), senior Victoria Friedman (Charlottesville, Va., Episcopal), sophomore Molly Arnold (Brooklandville, Md., Bryn Mawr), senior Allison Bland (Houston, Texas, St. John's), and sophomore Anna Morrow (Annapolis, Md., St. James) combined to score nine unanswered goals in the first half of the game versus Berry. After Morrow found the back of the net from a Velie pass, Berry scored four straight goals to end the half at a score of 9-4.
Sophomore Olivia Vietor (Bethesda, Md., Episcopal) and freshmanCaitlin-Jean Juricic (Michigan City, Ind., Culver Academy) scored in the first 1:30 of the second half to increase the Tigers' lead to seven. Berry refused to give up, and closed the gap to two goals late in the game. Sewanee held on with goals from Bland, Welton, and senior Carly Grimm (South Salem, N.Y., John Jay) in the second half to seal the victory.
Sewanee goalkeepers Amy Nusbaum (Norfolk, Va., Norfolk Academy) and Theresa Monypeny (Memphis, Tenn., Hutchison) each recorded four saves for the Tigers. Sewanee outshot Berry 32-30, picked up 18 ground balls over the course of the game, and converted 3 of their 5 free-position shots.
In their second match-up of the day, Sewanee dominated the Scotties of Agnes Scott by a score of 20-4. Goals were scored by Velie, Arnold, Juricic, Welton, Grimm, Bland, Victoria Friedman, Vietor, freshman Chelsea Staunton (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's Belfield), freshman Sarah Stock (Fort Bragg, N.C., Emma Wilard), and freshmanShelby Koebley (Hudson, Ohio, Hudson)
Sewanee outshot Agnes Scott 38-10 throughout the course of the game, and Sewanee goalkeeper Theresa Monypeny stopped two shots for the Tigers. The women return to action when Sewanee travels to LaGrange, Ga. to take on the Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on April 3rd.
