Box Score Despite a fourth-quarter surge, the Tigers fell to Guilford in Men's Lacrosse action today in Greensboro, NC. The Guilford Quakers (4-1) started the game strong against Sewanee with seven unanswered goals, until freshman Davis Brown (Norcross, Ga., Wesleyan School) scored the first of his team-high four goals. Davis scored off an assist by sophomore Pierce Leonard (Charlotte, N.C., Culver Military Academy) with less than two minutes left in the second period. Just over a minute later, Leonard found the back of the net from an assist by junior Brendan Eisenbrandt (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shady Side Academy) to close the gap to five goals going into halftime.
Guilford and Sewanee traded goals back and forth until the end of the period, and Sewanee started the fourth quarter down by six. The Tigers turned it around in the fourth quarter and outscored the Quakers 5-2, highlighted by three Brown goals and one Leonard goal. They recorded 17 of the 24 shots in the quarter and only had three turnovers to Guilford's eight, but the comeback was not enough to overtake the Quakers.
Sewanee freshman goalkeeper Tommy Healy (Bethesda, Md., Gonzaga) recorded 13 saves in the contest, and senior Teddy Peterson (McLean, Va., Episcopal School) was 5-12 on faceoffs. Healy, Peterson, and sophomore Palmer Simpson (Louisville, Ky., Trinity ) had 3 ground balls each, and Leonard recorded two caused turnovers. Sophomore Carson Pfiefer (Louisville, Ky., Louisville Collegiate), senior Travis Brannon (Nashville, Tenn., Montgomery Bell Academy), and freshman Michael Morris (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's Belfield) each scored a goal for the Tigers, while Leonard recorded 3 and Brown recorded 4.
With the loss, Sewanee moves to 1-3 on the season. The Tigers travel to Atlanta, GA for their next game versus Catholic on Sunday. Game time is Noon EST.
