DePauw edges out Sewanee, 1-0, in men's soccer

Box Score The 25th ranked DePauw University Tigers were simply too much for the Sewanee Tigers on Saturday. Depauw's defense limited the purple Tigers to just three shots on the afternoon before defeating Sewanee 1-0.

In a game dominated by two stingy defenses, DePauw's Andrew Desmarais was the only who was able to find the net and it was all DePauw needed for the day. At the 36 minute mark of the first half, Desmarais used a header off of Dean Weaver's corner kick to put the ball past Sewanee goalkeeper Freddie Delchamps, making it 1-0 in favor of the host Tigers. Sewanee's defense was able to hold DePauw for the rest of the period and the Tigers headed into halftime down by one.

Sewanee came out strong in the second half but DePauw took the offensive advantage and were able to keep the ball near the Sewanee net for most of the period, taking nine shots compared to just one for Sewanee. Delchamps shined for the Tigers, making several impressive stops to keep DePauw from getting on the board again. Play was tight for the rest of the second half and neither team was able find the net for the rest of the afternoon, ending the contest with a 1-0 DePauw victory.

Delchamps spent 90 minutes in goal for the Tigers and recorded five saves on the afternoon. Sewanee managed only three shots all afternoon, two of which resulted in saves by DePauw keeper Nate Sprenkel. Both Tiger squads were even with six corner kicks apiece.

The Tigers drop to 2-5-1 on the year and 0-1-1 in conference play. They will return to action on Friday when they host Austin College in another SCAC match up at 7:00 p.m.
