A Big Second Half Leads Sewanee WLAX Past Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Molly Arnold (Brooklandville, Md., Bryn Mawr) scored five of her game-high seven goals in the second half to lead Sewanee past Guilford College 23-17 in a Division III women's lacrosse match Sunday in Greensboro.

Arnold scored three times in a 7-0 Tiger run that started the second half and opened up a 17-10 lead with 15 minutes left in the game. Sewanee outscored Guilford 13-7 in the second half.

Arnold added an assist to finish with a game-high eight points. Megan Welton (Germantown, Tenn., Houston) scored four goals and four assists for Sewanee, also. She also picked up five ground balls. Sewanee's Carly Grimm (South Salem, N.Y., John Jay) scored three times and Steffi Renninger (Darnestown, Md., Sidwell Friends) collected five points on two goals and three assists. Theresa Monypeny (Memphis, Tenn., Hutchinson) earned the win in goal for Sewanee with three second-half saves. Carrie Ernst led Guilford with five goals and two assists.

Sewanee outshot Guilford 43-27 in the game and had 25 draw controls compared to 17 for Guilford. Sewanee is now 10-3 and will host Birmingham-Southern Friday. Guilford is now 5-7.
