Sewanee Women's Lacrosse Tops Denison in OT Thriller

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Sewanee women's lacrosse team play at Denison Friday and overcame an early deficit to lead 4-3 at the half. The second period ended in a 7-7 draw and in overtime, Sewanee added three more goals for the 10-7 win.


Mary Grace Bowring (Lexington, Va., Rockbridge County) scored three goals to lead Sewanee's offense, and Molly Arnold (Brooklandville, Md., Bryn Mawr) and Megan Welton (Germantown, Tenn., Houston) each chipped in two Tiger goals. Welton also picked up six ground balls. Alex Thurner led Denison with three goals.


In goal, Sewanee's Amy Nusbaum (Norfolk, Va., Norfolk Academy) played the entire 60 minutes and had 12 saves in the win. As a team, Sewanee took 24 shots and Denison took 26. The Tigers had a 24-23 edge in ground balls and capitalized on three free position attempts.


Sewanee is now 7-1 and will play at Kenyon tomorrow. Denison is now 3-2. Sewanee will return to home action Monday evening on the Mountain against Carthage.
