Sewanee Women's Lacrosse Opens 2010 Season in California

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Sewanee women's lacrosse team opened it's 2010 season Friday night at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and fell 20-9 to the host Athenas. CMS led 11-6 at the half.

Molly Arnold (Brooklandville, Md., Bryn Mawr) and Megan Welton (Germantown, Tenn., Houston) led Sewanee's scoring effort with three goals apiece. Devon Scott led the Athenas with five goals. In goal, Amy Nusbaum (Norfolk, VA, Norfolk Academy) and Theresa Monypeny (Memphis, Tenn., Hutchinson). CMS' K. Campbell-Morrison had five saves.

As a team, CMS outshot the Tigers 38-21 and won 23 draw controls. Each team had seven successful clears and CMS turned the ball over 14 times, compared to 13 for Sewanee.

Sewanee falls to 0-1 with the loss and CMS is unbeaten at 5-0. The Tigers will play at Redlands Saturday night.
