GAME 2

LaGrange, Ga. -- Sewanee opened its 2010 baseball season at Lagrange on Saturday and dropped both games of the doubleheader 12-4 and 13-0.

In game one, Sewanee trailed 6-4 after seven innings, but the host panthers posted a six-run eighth inning for the eventual eight-run win. Chris Mauro (Washington, D.C., St. Alban's) and Connor Liston (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Episcopal) led the Sewanee bats with a pair of hits each. Liston scored two of the four Tiger runs. Senior Greg Bartleski (Charlottesville, Va., Covenant) was the pitcher of record for Sewanee and held up for five full innings and allowed six hits and struck out four batters. Robbie Shelton led LaGrange, going 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

In the second contest, the teams played even, scoreless ball until the bottom of the third when the Panthers scored two. They sealed the deal with a 10-run fourth and an insurance run in the fifth for the final 13-0 tally. Logan Ray (Estill Springs, Tenn., Franklin County) was the pitcher of record for Sewanee, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing seven hits and striking out two batters.

The Tigers are 0-2 and will play LaGrange again tomorrow in a single nine-inning game.
