BOX SCORE

Seventh-ranked
Trinity University proved to be too much for the Sewanee women's soccer team, as the visiting purple Tigers fell 2-0 in San Antonio tonight. The two Tiger squads battled through over 60 minutes of play before Trinity finally broke the deadlock with what proved to be the game-winning goal. Sewanee snaps their five-game win streak and moves to 9-6 overall and 3-4 in SCAC play. With the win, Trinity is now 14-1 on the year and 7-0 in conference play.

The first half proved to be a defensive battle between the two conference foes. Trinity managed only seven shots in the half, while holding Sewanee to just two. Sewanee goalkeeper Virginia Zakas (Atlanta, Ga., Westminster) and Kate Willingham (Atlanta, Ga., Marist), the reigning SCAC Defensive Player of the Week, anchored a Tiger defense that held strong throughout the half and the Tiger teams headed into the locker room tied at zero.

The deadlock continued for nearly fifteen minutes into the second half, despite the fact that both teams came out shooting. Trinity's Kelly Watts finally broke the tie and put the hosts on the board at the 60:19 mark when her shot, off an assist by Jordan Azar, slipped past Zakas and found the back of the net.

Azar picked up her second assist 18 minutes later, as Abigail Loar added an insurance score for the Texas Tigers. Loar connected with Azar's pass and put a shot in the back of the goal at the 78:31 point. Loar's goal made it 2-0 in favor of the hosts, and despite some furious comeback attempts by Sewanee, the score would stand as Trinity picked up their 13th win in a row.

Trinity out shot Sewanee 19 to four in the contest and also held the edge in corner kicks, five to two. Zakas picked up seven saves in 90 minutes of action.

Sewanee will now head to Georgetown, Texas for a Sunday SCAC match up with the Pirates of Southwestern University. Southwestern sits at 8-6-1 on the season and 4-3 in conference play after taking out Oglethorpe 2-0 this afternoon.
