Tigers battle Rhodes to scoreless draw

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee women's soccer team battled Rhodes to a scoreless draw on Friday evening at Puett Field, as both teams remained unable to find the back of the net despite strong scoring opportunities throughout the second half.

The Tigers finished the match with an 11-12 disadvantage in shots, but held an 8-7 edge in shots during the second half. Sewanee also earned 11 corner kicks compared to five for the Lynx.

The two teams traded opportunities throughout the opening half, with Rhodes putting one of its best chances off the crossbar at the 22:59 mark on a free kick and forcing Sewanee goalkeeper Emilee Scott into a save off of the rebound.

After a scoreless first half, the Tigers created several quality chances early in the second half. Just under three minutes into the period, Amelia Comeaux sent a ball toward the goal, but Rhodes goalkeeper Lauren Hollis made an incredible save to keep the shot out of the top-left corner.

Sewanee continued to apply pressure, earning a pair of corner kicks before Sonia Djurasovic put a header on frame in the 23rd minute. Hollis again came up with the save, keeping the ball out of the goal, while Comeaux's rebound went wide.

The Tigers kept pushing as the half progressed, with Djurasovic recording another shot before Rhodes' Hollis denied her again in the 23rd minute. Comeaux followed with another attempt just moments later, but it went wide.

With just over three minutes remaining in the match, Comeaux sent another shot toward the goal, but Rhodes' Hillis made a diving one-handed save that deflected off the crossbar and out for another Sewanee corner kick.

Sewanee goalkeeper Emilee Scott also kept the Tigers level, making six saves in the match, including three in the final 15 minutes.

Neither team could break through in the final minutes, as the match ended in a 0-0 draw.

Djurasovic led the Tigers with three shots, while Comeaux and Greer Brantley added two apiece. Scott finished with six saves to preserve the shutout.
