2009 Women's Lacrosse: Sewanee Tops BSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sewanee played at Birmingham-Southern Friday night and topped the host Panthers 19-12 after leading 12-4 at the half. The Panthers outscores Sewanee 8-7 in the second, but Sewanee held up for the seven-goal win.

Meg Welton (Germantown, Tenn., Houston) led the Tiger scoring effort with six goals. Steffi Renninger (Darnestown, Md., Sidwell Friends) logged three goals and six assists. Hanna Moran (Towson, Md., Towson) won 10 of Sewanee's 17 draw controls. Goalkeeper Amy Nusbaum (Norfolk, Va., Norfolk Academy) had 10 saves in goal. Lyndsay Griffin led Birmingham-Southern with five goals and Katie Bates also had 10 saves in goal.

The Tigers outshot the Panthers 40-25 and picked up 39 ground balls compared to 30 for BSC. Sewanee is now 8-4 and Birmingham-Southern is at .500 with a 4-4 record.
