SEWANEE, Tenn. – After trailing 9-5 at halftime, Sewanee went on a 4-0 run late to even the score at 14 on a Steffi Renninger (Darnestown, Md., Sidwell Friends) goal against visiting Kenyon, but the visiting Ladies picked up the 15-14 women's lacrosse win on a Sewell Robinson goal with just over a minute left in the game.
Renninger led Sewanee's offense with four goals and an assist. Carly Grimm (South Salem, N.Y., John Jay) and Catherine Sanders (Peachtree City, Ga., Starr's Mill) each chipped in two goals. Amy Nusbaum (Norfolk, Va., Norfolk Academy) had 10 saves in goal for the Tigers. Robinson led Kenyon from the bench with four goals.
Sewanee outshot Kenyon by five shots and picked up 22 ground ball compared to just 17 for the Ladies. Sewanee edged out Kenyon with 16 draw controls. The ladies had 15. The Tigers capitalized on 17 of 22 clear attempts and Kenyon had 16 good clears in 23 attempts.
Sewanee is now 1-2 and will play at Dallas on March 17. Kenyon is still unbeaten at 3-0.
