Women's lacrosse rolls past Southwestern, 19-1

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sally Herrington tallied four goals, and Elizabeth Muller added a hat trick as Sewanee's women's lacrosse team scored 18 straight goals to defeat Southwestern, 19-1, at Puett Field on Sunday afternoon.

Herrington also contributed two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Muller finished with five points behind three goals and two assists, adding a caused turnover and a draw control. Kennedy Harcourt added two goals on two shots while recording three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Alex Berg tallied three points with two goals and a ground ball, while Erika Bolcar filled the stat sheet with a goal, an assist, three caused turnovers, and two ground balls. Carolyn Ames added a goal, three caused turnovers, and two draw controls.

Marlin Price led the Tigers with six points on five assists, adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Ellen Lewis controlled the draw with six draw controls while adding a goal and two assists.

Price connected with Harcourt for the game's opening goal, sparking an early surge as Sewanee netted eight goals in the first quarter. Herrington followed with the second, and Price found Lewis for another. Herrington then forced a turnover, collected the ground ball, and scored to extend the lead.

Sophia Bean secured the ensuing draw control, and just 22 seconds later, Price connected with Muller. Muller later assisted Berg, while Bolcar found Price before Berg capped the quarter with a goal in the final second to give Sewanee an 8-0 advantage.

The Tigers continued their momentum in the second quarter, adding five more goals. Lewis opened the frame with a draw control, leading to a Harcourt goal off an assist from Clark. Herrington pushed the lead to double digits after causing a turnover and converting a feed from Alex Kelly.

Stella Birk connected with Bean following another Lewis draw control, and Sam Shrader notched her first career goal off a Lewis assist. Clark and Kelly combined for the final goal of the half as Sewanee took a commanding lead into the break.

Sewanee added five more goals in the third quarter before Southwestern broke through in the fourth. Herrington closed the scoring with a man-up goal to secure the 19-1 victory.

Defensively, Sewanee was dominant, holding Southwestern to just three shots, including only two on goal, while the Tigers recorded 37 shots with 30 on target.

Sewanee returns to action on the road against Berry on April 4 before hosting Oglethorpe on April 11.
