Sewanee's Rally is Stopped Short

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee is hosting the Kyle Rote, Jr. Invitational this weekend and faced off against The University of the Ozarks in the nightcap. After the Tigers and Eagles locked up in a defensive struggle to go into the half tied at nil, the Eagles edged out the home Tigers 2-1 in the end.

Tony Sartoro and Matt Engelman put balls in the net early in the second to give Ozarks a 2-0 lead. Sewanee rallied with a Sam Koebley (Hudson, Ohio) goal in the 72nd minute to pull the Tigers to within one goal. Sewanee created several good chances late, but the Eagles held them off for the 2-1 win.

Sewanee outshot Ozarks 15-10 and took six corner kicks to the Eagles four. Ozarks committed 11 fouls compared to Sewanee's seven.

"Both teams played hard.  It was a physical game that was decided by the players not the officials.  The supporters were in good form.  Of course, the players are disappointed about the result and will need to put those feelings aside quickly.  We will learn allot about playing in these types of games (especially at home)", said Head Coach David Poggi.
