BOX SCORE
SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee outshot Rhodes 22-6 in SCAC men's soccer action on Sunday, but none of the Tiger shots found the back of the net and Rhodes took home the 2-0 league win.
The first period was a defensive struggle, with neither team scoring in the half. In the second, Patrick Deveau and Jarrett Carpenter scored in the 70th and 76th minutes, with Carpenter's goal being a late penalty kick to secure the final score of 2-0 in favor of the visiting Lynx.
Sewanee outshot Rhodes 11-2 in the first and 11-4 in the second period. Rhodes committed nine fouls compared to seven for Sewanee and
Johnny Nalley (Gainesville, Ga., Gainesville) had two saves in goal for Sewanee, while Alex Margolin had 12 for Rhodes.
"Today was the best we've played all season. We put two complete halves together. We were up for the challenge Rhodes presented and were never shaken. We dominated every statistic but the final score. We have worked very hard today and are disappointed not to have gotten a result. This is a process and we are making progress. For the players and supporters I wish the final score would have been more fair. As a team we never folded," said Coach
David Poggi.
Sewanee moves to 4-6 on the year and is 1-3 in the SCAC. Rhodes is 6-2-1 and is 2-2 in the league. Sewanee will face Oglethorpe next weekend and Rhodes will play Hendrix.
