Sewanee Tops Hendrix in Strokes at SCACs

DANVILLE, Ky. -- \#4 seed Sewanee faced \#5 Hendrix in the first round of the SCAC Tournament today and after the game remained at 2-2 through overtime, the Tigers outshot the Warriors 3-1 in strokes to get the eventual 3-2 win.

Senior Claiborne Buckingham (Richmond, Va., Collegiate) drew first blood in the contest, taking Sewanee up 1-0 in the first half off of a Caitlin McNaughton (Middleburg, Va., Foxcroft) assist. The match remained at 1-0 in favor of the Tigers until the second half.

In the second, Hendrix scored twice to go up 2-1 before Sewanee's Taylor Skeen (Baltimore, Md., Towson) scored unassisted to secure the final regulation tally of 2-2. After two scoreless overtime periods, Sewanee outshot Hendrix 3-1 in strokes to earn the final 3-2 win.

Hendrix outshot Sewanee 32-23 in the game and Sewanee goalkeeper Clarkie Crawford (Louisville, Ky., Collegiate) had 13 saves in 100 minutes of play. She has 116 saves in 2008 to lead the SCAC.

The Tigers (12-6) will face \#1 DePauw tomorrow in round two.
