Jane Stilz carded a one-over par round of 73 and freshman
Natalie Catapano posted two-over for Sewanee on Wednesday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships on the Mountain View course at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Tigers recorded a team score of 300, moving into 13
th among 34 teams in the tournament to make the cut for the final two days. Sewanee stands just six shots from the Top 10. All of the Sewanee players started their rounds at the seventh hole.
Stilz started the round with bogeys on holes seven and nine, but then she heated up with six pars and birdies on holes 11, 12 and 16 on the back nine. The Lexington, Ky., native registered four pars and two bogeys to complete her round, including a bogey on her last hole, shooting one-over 73 for a two-day total of 144, tied for 13
th but only two strokes from the Top 5.
Catapano collected seven pars and four bogeys over her first 11 holes before a birdie at No. 18. On the front nine the Pacific Palisades, Calif., native posted five pars and ended the day with a birdie at No. 6 for a two-over 74 and a 36-hole score of 151, tied for 44th.
After getting off to a slow start in the first round, freshman
Elizabeth Bowman recorded three birdies in the first five holes on Wednesday, on holes eight, nine and 11. The College Grove, Tenn., native made four bogeys and three pars over the last seven holes on the back nine and posted another birdie at No. 2, carding a four-over 76 for a two-day total of 162, tied for 114th.
Freshman
Rachel Waters registered two birdies and two bogeys in her first five holes as well, with birdies on nine and 11. The Nashville, Tenn., native tallied two bogeys and two double bogeys along with a birdie at 17 to complete the back nine. She made six consecutive pars to complete the round with a five-over 77 and a 36-hole score of 155, tied for 75th.
Freshman
Anna Claire Gibson collected pars on four of her first five holes before two bogeys and a double in the middle of the back nine. The Knoxville, Tenn., native posted five pars with one double in the last six holes, finishing with an 80 and a two-day total of 161, tied for 111th.
