Natalie Catapano carded a three-under par 69 that included four birdies and freshman
Elizabeth Bowman shot three-over 75 for Sewanee women's golf Monday in the first round of the SAA Preview at Greystone Golf Course in Dickson, Tenn.
The Tigers posted a team score of 302 after the opening round for first place, three strokes ahead of Trinity University. The final round is set for Tuesday, just three-and-a-half weeks ahead of the conference championships that will take place at the same course.
Catapano started her round at No. 10, recording seven straight pars before a birdie at No. 17 and then a par on 18 to make the turn. The Pacific Palisades, Calif., native made birdies on holes two, four and nine on the front nine with one bogey for three-under 69 and first place individually, one stroke in front of Trinity's Jessica Mason.
Bowman, playing as an individual, collected a par on her first hole, No. 17, and a bogey at 18 before registering a birdie on No. 1. The College Grove, Tenn., native made four pars and four bogeys on the remainder of the front nine. She recorded six pars plus a birdie at No. 15 to finish the round at three-over 75, in solo third place.
Junior
Olivia Bentley recorded three pars to begin her day and then registered three bogeys to make the turn. The Nashville, Tenn., native collected three pars and two birdies, on holes two and four, to start the front nine, before another stretch of three bogeys on holes 6-8. She finished the round with four consecutive pars for a four-over 76, alone in fourth place.
Freshman
Anna Claire Gibson netted five straight pars to start the round and made two bogeys to make the turn. The Knoxville, Tenn., native registered her only birdie of the day at No. 2 and collected six pars with a bogey and one double bogey on the front nine. She added another par and a bogey to complete the round with a five-over 77, tied for fifth.
Senior
Jane Stilz and freshman
Maeve Fitzgerald each shot eight-over par 80 in the first round.
Stilz collected six pars on the back nine with two bogeys and one double. The Lexington, Ky., native birdied Nos. 5 and 9 on the front along with six bogeys and one par and is tied for ninth.
Fitzgerald started her round at No. 14 with three pars and a birdie at No. 15. The Meridian, Idaho, native doubled the 18
th and shot five-over on the front nine with four pars and five bogeys. She made two pars and two bogeys to end the day.
Freshman
Rachel Waters opened her round at No. 13 with four consecutive pars before a double at No. 17 and a bogey on 18. The Nashville, Tenn., native posted five pars and four bogeys on the front nine and added two more bogeys on 10 and 11, shooting nine-over 81 in the first round, tied for 12
th.
Freshman
Lila Weaver bogeyed Nos. 17 and 18, her first two holes of the day, but rebounded with five pars, one bogey and a birdie at No. 7 on the front nine. The Saint Johns, Fla., native had a stretch of three straight double bogeys on holes 11-13 but finished with birdies at Nos. 14 and 16, posting an 84, tied for 16
th.
Junior
Payton Burch got off to a rough start with three bogeys and a triple bogey on her first four holes. The Elgin, S.C., native made five pars and two bogeys on the front nine and birdied her final hole of the round, No. 14, finishing with an 87, tied for 22
nd.
Senior
Mary Elizabeth Jackson registered two pars and a bogey to begin her day and netted five bogeys with a birdie at No. 3 on the front nine. The Hartwell, Ga., native added another birdie at No. 10 along with two pars and two bogeys for a first-round 88, tied for 24
th.
Freshman
Anna Louise Chesnut collected six pars, three on each side, along with seven bogeys, shooting a 90 on Monday, good for 26
th place for the Athens, Ala., native.
