SEWANEE, Tenn. – Freshman
Natalie Catapano shot a second consecutive round of three-over par 75, moving up 13 spots in the final standings, and Sewanee women's golf finished 12
th as a team Sunday in the final round of the Jekyll Island Women's Intercollegiate in Jekyll Island, Ga.
The Tigers got as high as seventh early in the round Sunday but placed 12
th among 24 teams in the club's second spring event, ahead of four other squads from the Southern Athletic Association.
All of the Sewanee players started their rounds at No. 1 on the Great Dunes Course at Jekyll Island Golf Club, with Catapano registering six pars with bogeys on holes two and three and a birdie on the par-5 eighth hole. The Pacific Palisades, Calif., native collected five more pars on the back nine with a birdie at No. 16, but she also bogeyed 13, 14 and 18, finishing with a three-over 75 and a three-day total of 230, tied for 15
th and just two strokes from the Top 10.
Freshmen
Anna Claire Gibson and
Rachel Waters both shot 82 in the final round, though in different ways.
Waters birdied No. 1 before a bad stretch of holes from 2-7 with five bogeys and one double bogey. The Nashville, Tenn., native rebounded with eight pars over the final 11 holes with two bogeys and a double for her 82. She moved up five spots in the final standings into a tie for 75
th with a 54-hole score of 246.
Gibson registered five pars on the front nine with two bogeys, but also one double and one triple bogey. The Knoxville, Tenn., native played the back nine in three-over with six pars and three bogeys for her round of 82, tying for 71
st with a three-round total of 245.
Senior
Jane Stilz started slowly with two bogeys and a double on the first four holes before reeling off five consecutive pars. The Lexington, Ky., native bogeyed seven of the nine holes on the back nine, though, shooting an 83 for a 54-hole score of 238, tied for 44
th.
Junior
Olivia Bentley also carded an 83 in the final round with four pars, four bogeys and a double on the front nine. The Nashville, Tenn., native netted three pars and four bogeys on the back as well as a birdie at No. 14. She doubled the last hole for a three-day total of 241, tied for 59
th.
All five Sewanee players made at least a bogey on the par-5 fourth hole on Sunday, including two doubles and a triple.
The Tigers play again March 30-31 at the SAA Preview in Dickson, Tenn., and will return to Greystone Golf Club less than four weeks later for the conference championships.
