Lewis, Whitehead sweep SAA Weekly Honors

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's women's lacrosse team swept the Southern Athletic Association weekly honors for the second straight week, as Ellen Lewis and Sally Whitehead each earned recognition.

Ellen Lewis was named Offensive Athlete of the Week after leading all players with seven points, contributing to half of Sewanee's 14 goals in its win over NAIA Life University on Sunday afternoon. Her five goals and two assists powered the Tigers past the Running Eagles, 14-11.

The freshman delivered a complete performance on both ends of the field while playing a key role on the ride unit. Lewis recorded seven draw controls to lead both teams, helping Sewanee dominate the draw circle, 19-8. She also made an impact defensively, tallying two caused turnovers and three ground balls from her attacker position.

On the defensive side, Sally Whitehead earned SAA honors for her all-around effort. She finished with two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls. The midfielder also played a pivotal role offensively, helping shift momentum in Sewanee's favor. Her assist in the third quarter gave the Tigers their first lead of the game at 8-7. In the fourth quarter, Whitehead scored twice — first tying the game at 11-11 before netting the game-winning goal with three minutes remaining.

Sewanee will host its home opener against Piedmont on Saturday at noon at Puett Field.
