Price's five goals sends Sewanee past Piedmont, 20-5

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Marlin Price tallied five goals, and Ellen Lewis added six points, as Sewanee scored fifteen unanswered goals, leading to a 20-5 home opener in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Puett Field. 

Lewis scored four goals and two assists, with a ground ball and draw control for her day. Sally Whitehead, Katherine Clark, and Haley Price all tallied two goals and an assist each. Alex Kelly added four draw controls with a goal and an assist, while Haley Price tallied two ground balls. Erika Bolcar had two points with a goal and an assist, while Mueller added a goal. Carolyn Ames added two assists with two draw controls and a caused turnover. 

Defensively, Ella Townsend caused three turnovers, picked up four ground balls, and scored a goal to her day, while Erin Cunningham caused two turnovers, picked up a ground ball, and scored a goal. Helen Newcomb also caused two turnovers and picked up two ground balls. 

Marlin Price struck first for the Tigers off a free-position shot before Sewanee scored seven more to close the first period. 

In the second period, Quinn Maley gave the Tigers possession, causing a turnover, Townsend picked up the ground ball, and Marlin Price found the back of the net again for her fifth goal of the day. Haley Price scored a man-up goal for the Tigers with an assist from Lewis, who then scored another man-up goal just over a minute later, with an assist from Ames. Haley Price and Lewis connected for another goal before Haley Price found Elizabeth Mueller for Sewanee's 14th goal. 

Piedmont scored four goals in the third, while Sewanee posted four of their own, keeping a 14-goal lead. 

Sofia Bean found Sally Whitehead for a man-down goal with 10:35 in the fourth quarter for a man-down goal, and Katherine Clark connected with Erin Cunningham for a man-up goal. Clark added a free-position goal with 2:45 on the clock, before Piedmont tacked on a man-up goal with just over a minute left in the final period. 

Sewanee will face John Carroll on March 6 at Rhodes, before returning home for three-straight games against Lake Forest, Wittenberg, and Rowan.
