Jane Stilz posted a 77 for Sewanee women's golf Monday at the Transylvania Kickoff Classic on the Big Blue Course at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
The Tigers finished third among 12 teams, recording a 309 in the second round to place eight strokes ahead of Huntingdon College and nine in front of Piedmont University and Oglethorpe University.
Bentley started her round at the fourth hole and registered a bogey on No. 5 before a birdie at the ninth. She added another birdie on No. 13 but posted back-to-back bogeys at 16 and 17. The Nashville, Tenn., native double bogeyed No. 2 but came right back with a birdie on the third hole, her last hole of the round, for a two-over 75 and a 36-hole score of 157, tied for 20
th. Bentley recorded 11 pars for the day.
Catapano opened her round at No. 2, netting seven pars with a birdie at No. 6 to make the turn. The Pacific Palisades, Calif., native added six more pars on the back nine with bogeys at Nos. 10 and 15 along with a double bogey on 16. She made a par at No. 1 to finish the round at three-over 76 for a two-day total of 153, tied for 14
th.
Stilz bogeyed her first hole of the round, No. 1, but then registered eight consecutive pars. The Lexington, Ky., native started the back nine with a birdie at No. 10 and she made four pars and four bogeys over the last eight holes, shooting a four-over 77 for a 36-hole score of 148, solo sixth.
Freshman
Rachel Waters also began her round at No. 2 with a par and netted a birdie on the third hole before three bogeys and a double to finish the front nine. The Nashville, Tenn., native collected birdies on holes 12 and 18 on the back nine along with three bogeys and a double before ending the day with a bogey at No. 1 for an eight-over 81 and a two-day total of 161, tied for 24
th.
Junior
Payton Burch, playing as an individual, made a par at No. 18, her first hole of the round, and recorded three pars with five bogeys on the front nine. The Elgin, S.C., native added four more pars and her only birdie of the day at No. 15, carding an 84 for a 36-hole score of 171, tied for 41
st.
Freshman
Anna Claire Gibson posted three pars in the first four holes after starting at No. 1 but then collected four bogeys and two doubles over the next six holes. The Knoxville, Tenn., native tallied four more pars with a birdie at No. 13 on the back nine, finishing with an 85 and a two-day total of 161.
Sewanee plays again Sept. 21-22 at the Montgomery Women's Intercollegiate at Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, Ala.
