SEWANEE, Tenn. – Director of Sports Medicine, Dr.
Devon Serrano, has announced the addition of
Sofia Diaz Martinez and
Paige Patterson as Assistant Athletic Trainers, joining the Sports Medicine team ahead of the 2025-26 academic year.
Martinez arrives at Sewanee following two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the Troy University football program. A native of Cordoba, Argentina, Martinez earned her undergraduate degree in athletic training from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she gained clinical experience with the Rebels' football and women's soccer programs, as well as in high school settings. While at UNLV, she also volunteered at events such as the East-West Shrine Bowl, XFL games, The Basketball League, and Pro Action Dance.
At Troy, she played an integral role in implementing injury prevention protocols, providing on-field emergency care, and managing rehabilitation plans in collaboration with coaches and fellow medical staff.
Patterson comes to the Mountain after completing her Master of Science in Athletic Training at Lee University. A native of Edmonton, AB, Canada, she brings with her a wide range of clinical experience in both high school and collegiate settings, including recent rotations with Tennessee Wesleyan's men's and women's lacrosse teams, Lee University Athletics, and East Hamilton High School.
A former NCAA Division II student-athlete herself, Patterson competed in cross country and track & field for six years, earning multiple All-Conference and All-Region accolades. She completed her undergraduate degree at Saint Leo University with a major in Biology and a minor in Healthcare Administration.
With the additions of Martinez and Patterson, Sewanee continues to build on its commitment to providing top-tier healthcare and support to its student-athletes across all 26 varsity sports.
