Men's golf ranked fifth in preseason coaches' poll

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee men's golf is ranked fifth in the preseason Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll, as released Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The Tigers and second-year head coach Keenan Hickton return 5-of-6 players who helped the program claim the SAA championship this past spring. Sewanee made the cut and finished 10th at the NCAA Tournament in May despite Phil Mickelson National Freshman of the Year Turner Chiles missing the event because of injury.

Senior Elias Becker tied for 27th at the NCAA Tournament and shared SAA Player of the Year honors with Chiles in 2024-25. Becker posted rounds of 73-75-72-75 for a four-day total of seven-over par 295.

Chiles placed in the Top 15 in all eight tournaments he completed last year, tying for sixth at the SAA Championships.

Senior Colin Edwards finished four strokes back of Becker at the national tourney, including a final-round one-under 71, while freshman Niel Phillips shot three-under 69 on the final day. Junior Logan Johnson carded a one-over 73 in the last round of the NCAA Tournament and registered three Top 20 finishes during the 2024-25 campaign.

Sewanee opens the 2025-26 season with the SAA Preview at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn., on Sept. 7 and travels to Greensboro, N.C., for the Gate City Invitational at Forest Oaks Country Club on Sept. 15-16.
