Payton Burch carded a first-round three-over 75 and junior
Jane Stilz added a 78 for Sewanee on Friday in the first day of the SAA Women's Golf Championships at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.
The Tigers posted a 313 team score and stand third among six teams after the first of three rounds. The players worked around a pair of rain delays during Friday's round and all five Sewanee players began the day at hole No. 1.
Burch shot two-over on the front nine with eight pars and a double bogey at No. 8. The Elgin, S.C., native added six pars with two bogeys and a birdie at No. 17 on the back, finishing at three-over 75, alone in sixth place individually. She is just three strokes from third place.
Stilz shot three-over on the front nine with six pars and three bogeys. The Lexington, Ky., native birdied Nos. 10 and 14 on the back but ended the round with double bogeys on holes 16 and 18, shooting six-over par 78, tied for 12
th.
Sophomore
Olivia Bentley registered birdies on holes three and four and posted a three-over total on the front side with two pars and five bogeys. The Nashville, Tenn., native collected three pars, five bogeys and a birdie at No. 17 on the back, carding a seven-over par 79, tied for 14
th.
Senior
Sabrina Nesbitt registered four pars to start the day before three bogeys and a double bogey. She ended the front nine with a birdie at No. 9. The Newport Beach, Calif., native tallied three bogeys and five pars on the back but ended the day with a double at No. 18 for a nine-over par 81, alone in 17
th individually.
Junior
Mary Elizabeth Jackson netted two pars and six bogeys on the front nine. The Hartwell, Ga., native posted a string of four straight pars on the back and finished with a 92, tied for 36
th.
