Tigers drop exhibition contest at Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn.Janie Boyd posted 12 points and Cydney Wright added 12 for Sewanee in an exhibition loss in women's basketball action here Thursday afternoon at Allen Arena.
 
The Tigers shot just 26 percent from the field overall but 35 percent in the second half. Sewanee made 4-of-8 from 3-point range in the final two quarters and played even with the Bisons, 24-23, in the fourth period.
 
Boyd finished with 12 points with two assists while Wright made 3-of-7 shots and all three free throw attempts for nine points along with four rebounds. Olivia Falvey added eight points.
 
The Tigers struggled to score at the rim over the taller Bisons and dribbled into traffic or took extra steps against defensive pressure, which caused 27 turnovers in the game.
 
Sewanee made only 2-of-13 shots to open the game, falling behind, 28-10, at the end of one period. The squad connected on 6-of-7 at the foul line in the period, though.
 
A lack of offensive execution continued in the second quarter, with the Tigers hitting just 2-for-14, and the team did not make a 3-pointer in the first 20 minutes on nine attempts.
 
Sewanee connected on 9-of-16 shots in the fourth quarter, with Boyd netting six points and Wright adding four.
 
Taylor Bowen led the Bisons with 18 points and Molly Heard posted 17.
 
Sewanee opens the regular season this Sunday with a Noon home game against Wesleyan College at Juhan Gymnasium.
