SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee sophomore
Hannah Cleveland averaged 22.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in two wins for the Tigers, earning Southern Athletic Association Player of the Week honors, as announced Monday by the conference office.
The Hopedale, Ill., native posted a career-high 34 points while adding seven boards in a comeback win over Maryville College. She connected on 9-of-14 shots overall, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, and made all 11 attempts at the foul line. The Tigers trailed 13-2 to start the game and 22-10 after one period, but Cleveland's 16 first-half points helped Sewanee get back into the contest and eventually take the lead in the final two quarters.
She followed that with 10 points and eight rebounds at Huntingdon College in another come-from-behind victory. Sewanee trailed by a dozen points in the second quarter before putting together a 16-3 run to take the lead. The Tigers stretched the lead to 10 in the fourth period and hung on for the road win.
Cleveland is averaging 16.6 points and 6.6 rebounds in five games this season with four double figure scoring outings. Sewanee hosts Warren Wilson this Saturday at 2 p.m. at Juhan Gymnasium.
