SEWANEE, Tenn. – Freshman
Maeve Fitzgerald carded a four-over 76 and Sewanee is fifth as a team after the opening round of the Chick-fil-A Invitational at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Ga.
The Tigers, playing their 'B' team, stand just three strokes behind Oglethorpe University for fourth in the team standings. All four teams in front of the Tigers are ranked in the Top 50 by Clippd.
Fitzgerald started at No. 15, collecting three pars with a bogey before making the turn. The Meridian, Idaho, native netted five pars with two bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine before making a birdie at No. 9. She added three pars with one bogey and a birdie at No. 12 for a four-over 76, tied for sixth individually.
Junior
Olivia Bentley got off to a rough start with a quadruple bogey on her first hole, the par-5 14
th, but rebounded with three pars and a birdie on 17. The Nashville, Tenn., native posted four pars and five bogeys on the front nine and added three more pars with a double to finish with an 82, tied for 26
th.
Freshman
Elizabeth Bowman also started slowly with two bogeys and a triple bogey on her first three holes after beginning at No. 16. The College Grove, Tenn., native collected four pars, two bogeys and birdies on five and seven on the front nine. She also finished the round with a birdie at No. 15, shooting 83, tied for 31
st.
Freshman
Lila Weaver bogeyed No. 15, her first hole, and recorded three consecutive pars to make the turn. The Saint Johns, Fla., native made four bogeys and a birdie at No. 5 along with two pars on the front nine. She tallied two pars and three bogeys to end the day with an 84, tied for 35
th.
Senior
Mary Elizabeth Jackson, playing as an individual, opened with a bogey at No. 17 but then made three pars in the next five holes. The Hartwell, Ga., native birdied seven and added two pars and four bogeys on the back, posting an 85, tied for 35
th.
Freshman
Anna Louise Chesnut registered four pars and four bogeys on the back nine. The Athens, Ala., native netted one par and five bogeys on the front, finishing with a 92, tied for 68
th.
