Natalie Catapano carded a four-over 76 and freshman
Anna Claire Gibson shot 80 for Sewanee women's golf Sunday in the first round of the Golfweek Fall Classic at The Links at Sandestin in Destin, Fla.
The Tigers stand tied for 16
th among 24 teams after the opening round with a team score of 326, only nine strokes from the Top 10.
Catapano started her round at No. 10 and shot 40 on the back nine with six pars, two bogeys and a double bogey. The Pacific Palisades, Calif., native carded six more pars with birdies on holes five and eight but made a double on the par-5 ninth hole for four-over 76, tied for 18
th individually. Catapano's 12 pars ranked as the third most in the field in the first round and she was second in the field in scoring on par-4's at even and second-best on par-3's at one-under.
Gibson got off to a rough start with two bogeys and a double on the first four holes but also a birdie at No. 12. The Knoxville, Tenn., native recorded 10 pars over the last 14 holes with three bogeys and a double, shooting eight-over 80, tied for 55
th.
Senior
Jane Stilz also struggled on her first six holes, posting three bogeys and two doubles, before settling down. The Lexington, Ky., native shot four-over on the final 12 holes with nine pars, two bogeys and a double for an 83, tied for 72
nd.
Junior
Olivia Bentley carded a 45 on the back nine with two pars, five bogeys and two doubles. The Nashville, Tenn., native started the front nine with a triple bogey and three more bogeys but then birdied holes four and nine, finishing with an 87, tied for 92
nd.
Junior
Payton Burch shot 40 on the back nine with seven pars, one bogey and a triple. The Elgin, S.C., native collected four pars, two bogeys and two doubles on the front nine but carded an 11 on the par-3 third hole, posting a 90 for the round, tied for 104
th.
The second of three rounds takes place Monday.
