INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
-The Purple Tigers saw three finish in the top-10 at the championships.
Grayson Maddox solidified his top-5 performance with a Sunday score of 73 to finish the 54-hole event at 210 for fourth overall. Not only is that his lowest score at the SAAs, but it is also the lowest score a Sewanee player has had at the SAA Championship, surpassing his 218 score in 2021.
-Finishing with a 3.93 stroke average on par 4s and a 4.58 average of par 5s, Maddox finished second in the field with 16 birdies.
-
Ryan Demit dropped two spots with his 73 in Sunday's final 18 holes, but the senior capped off a 54-hols score of 212 to take seventh in the event. Chipping in 14 birdies at the event, he posted a 3.93 average of par 4s and a 4.67 on par 5s.
-Moving up four slots to eighth in the field was freshman
Colin Edwards, who fired a -1, 71 on Sunday thanks to three birdies, including back-to-back on holes eight and nine. He posted a 54-hole score of 214.
-
Pearse Lucas chipped in a 76 on Sunday to finish 17th with a 220.
-
Langdon Aronson (223) and
Drew Miller (227) round out the Tiger scoring.
TEAM LEADERBOARD
-It was a roller coaster final round for Sewanee. Entering the day trailing leader Oglethorpe by 13 strokes, the Petrels shot a +4 on the front-nine and the Tigers cut the deficit to just three strokes as they made the turn to the final nine holes.
-However, it was a struggle for the Tigers on the back-nine. Not only did Oglethorpe maintained their lead as both teams shot a +5, 293 on the day, but Rhodes soared to the No. 2 spot with an even-par, 288 final round to edge Sewanee by one stroke.
-Sewanee shattered its conference championship record for tournament-low by 39 strokes with a 54-hole score of 852, good for a tie of the third-lowest score at an SAA Championship. The team's previous high came at the 2019 event with an 891.
-For Oglethorpe, who broke their own conference record for a 54-hole score (839), it is the program's second championship in a row and the fifth in program history for the Petrels.
UP NEXT
Sewanee will now await its fate in receiving an at-large bid into the NCAA Championships on May 16-19 from Nicholasville, Ky. and Keene Trace. The Tigers are ranked 17th in the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll and 16th in the GolfStat Rankings.
If the team misses the cut,
Pearse Lucas, who is 13th in the nation, will likely make an appearance for Sewanee as an individualist at the championship.
The NCAA will announce selections via a press release on Monday, May 8 on ncaa.com.
