Swim & Dive Heads into Final Stretch of SAA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of the South swimming and diving teams are now three days in at the 2023 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Swimming & Diving Championships from the Birmingham CrossPlex. The women sit in fifth, and the men are in sixth with the final day of competition set for Saturday.

TOP FEMALE PERFORMERS
-Mary-Louise LeMieux swam a season-best in the 200 freestyle. Posting a 1:58.58 in the prelims and qualifying for the A-Cut final, the sophomore touched the wall at 1:56.26 for sixth place. 

-Aurelia Willett recorded a career-best time of 1:00.01 in the prelims of the 100 backstroke. Making it to the A-Cut final, the sophomore took seventh with a 1:00.16. 

-Willett, Sarah Mehany, Maddy DuBois and LeMieux put together a time of 4:11.17 in the 400 medley relay. 

-On the diving boards, Greta Cobb scored 310.35 points on the high-dive for fifth place in the event. 

-Rachel Little finished second in the B-Cut final of the 400 individual medley. After advancing to the final with a 4:55.90, the sophomore improved her time by swimming a career-best 4:51.95 in the final. 

-DuBois recorded a B-Cut time of 1:02.10 in the 100 fly for a career-best, while Mehany clocked in at 1:13.15 during the 100 breaststroke. Natalia Evans had a 1:02.26 in the 100 back for a new personal-best. 

TOP MALE PERFORMERS
-George Mabry recorded a 52.17-second time in the A-Cut final of the 100 backstroke. Recording a 52.38 time in the prelims, the junior posted the season-best time in the final. 

-Naeem Mangum took the B-Cut victory in the 100 breaststroke (58.97), earning a personal-best swim on Friday. 

-Korbin Smith was a part of the B-Cut final in the 400 IM, taking a 5:20.36 finish. 

UP NEXT
The final day of the 2023 SAA Championships take place on Saturday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. from the Birmingham CrossPlex. 

Along with the men's 3-meter diving final, the 200 backstroke, the 100 freestyle, the 200 breaststroke, the mile and the 200 butterfly will be on display in the pool.
