Grady Has Remarkable Weekend at Maryville; Equestrian Leads Region at End of Fall Schedule

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The University of the South equestrian team wrapped up the fall slate on Oct. 23-24 at the Maryville Show from Scots Ridge. Sewanee wraps up the fall portion of the 2021-22 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) schedule currently atop the Zone 5, Region 1 standings.

SATURDAY'S TOP PERFORMERS
-Nell Grady took home Reserve High Point Rider honors in Saturday's show. The freshman won the Limit Over Fences event and earned second in the Limit Flat class. 

-Sarah Buchholz took second in the Intermediate Over Fences class and fourth in the Open Flat. 

-Gigi Aiken secured third place in both the Open Over Fences and Open Flat sessions. 

SUNDAY'S TOP PERFORMERS
-Grady improved her efforts from Saturday's class to secure High Point Individual Rider laurels on Sunday. The Andover, Mass. native won both the Limit Over Fences and Limit Flat classes. 

-Liza Shoaf won the Sunday portion of the Open Over Fences class, while Buchholz finished in second in the Intermediate Over Fences. 

-Aiken finished in second in the Open Flat and Open Over Fences events.

-Caroline Gramig took second place in the Introductory class. 

REGION STANDINGS AND INDIVIDUAL QUALIFIERS
-Sewanee currently holds the top spot in the Zone 5, Region 1 Rankings with 144 points, followed by Vanderbilt (64) and Middle Tennessee State (62). 

-Four Sewanee riders have qualified for the IHSA Regional Championships on March 6, 2022: Revie Atkinson (Novice Flat), Siena London (Intermediate Flat and Intermediate Fences), Sarah Buchholz (Intermediate Flat and Intermediate Fences) and Catherine Bratton (Novice Flat).

Sewanee's IHSA schedule resumes on Feb. 19-20 at Middle Tennessee State.
