Sewanee Drops Two to Spalding

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Sewanee baseball suffered a series sweep to the hands of Spalding University with an 8-4 and 22-4 loss from the McCallie School.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
-The Tigers got the offense going early on a two-run homer by Chris McNulty.

-Spalding tied the matchup at two runs each with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

-After Spalding tallied a run in the sixth to take the lead, 3-2, the Purple and Gold brought two home via a sacrifice fly by Riley Brandvold and a Jared Demkowicz single.

-Trailing 4-3 going into the final three innings, the Eagles shut the Tigers down the rest of the way, taking the final five runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
-Tied at one going into the third inning, the Eagles used a two-run frame to take a 3-1 lead.

-After Sewanee made it 3-2 in favor of the visitors, the Eagles exploded for 15 runs in the next three innings.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Chris McNulty finished the day with two RBI with three hits in the twinbill.

-Tyler Dunbar and Derek Hullings recorded multi-hit games in game one of the doubleheader with two hits apiece.

-Drew Mancuso tossed six innings in the opener, allowed three earned runs on four hits and fanned 10 batters, but he would not factor in the decision.

-Lucas DeSantis (0-1) allowed the final four runs for Spalding in the eighth and the ninth innings.

-Daniel McDonnell (0-2) allowed seven earned runs on seven hits and five walks in 3.2 innings in the second game.

SPALDING KEY STATISTICS
-Garrett Wilson tallied five RBI in game one and went 7-of-9 combined in both games.

-Hayden Davenport (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Eagles in game one, throwing four shutout innings.

-In game two, Zach Jones (1-0) tossed five innings to earn the win. The sophomore allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out four batters.

UP NEXT
The Tigers continue on with the opening series of Southern Athletic Association play, as they travel to Rhodes. The series begins on Saturday with an 11 a.m. double dip.
