Fortman, Petrocco, Donald garner First Team All-SAA recognition

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee sophomores Aidan Petrocco and Zach Fortman and junior Taj Donald were all voted First Team All-SAA and senior Charlie Teel earned Second Team honors, as announced Tuesday by the league office.

In addition, senior Owen Andress, sophomores Will Jennewein, Tyler Pinson and Austin Graber and freshman Max Kilburn were named Honorable Mention All-SAA and Ryan Moll is a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Despite missing eight games with an injury, Fortman has been among the league leaders in several categories all season, batting .396 with four doubles, five triples, nine home runs (program single-season record), 51 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He also has 22 walks, 11 hit by pitches and is 14-for-14 in stolen bases in 31 contests. The Clinton, S.C., native posted a program single-game record nine RBIs versus Asbury University in early March and drove in six runs in another contest against Millsaps College.

Petrocco hit above .400 for most of the season until a recent slump, lowering his average to .374. He has posted 19 multi-hit outings with six three-hit games and two four-hit contests and has reached base safely in 36-of-39 outings thanks to 58 hits, 19 walks and 10 hit by pitches. The Johns Creek, Ga., native has 12 doubles, four homers, 31 RBIs and a league-leading 52 runs scored. He ranks fourth in the conference in hits and doubles, fifth in on-base percentage (.478) and sixth in batting average.

Donald enters the conference tournament with a 2-2 record and a 4.12 ERA in 12 outings covering 63.1 innings. He has pitched at least five innings in 10 of his 11 starts and six or more innings in four of the seven outings in conference play. In SAA contests, the Chester Springs, Pa., native has posted a 1-2 mark with a 2.98 ERA in seven outings and 42.1 innings, giving up 14 earned runs with 29 strikeouts. He worked six innings in the conference opener at Berry College, allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts, and tossed 6.1 innings at Centre College, giving up two earned runs. Donald allowed three earned runs, all in the second inning, in a career-best eight-plus innings at Trinity University.

Teel has played in 148 career games with 146 starts in four years at Sewanee, starting every game each of the last three seasons. He is hitting .313 with 12 doubles, three triples, six home runs, 40 RBIs and 41 runs scored in 39 contests. He also has 20 walks and nine hit by pitches. The Charleston, S.C., native has hit safely in 29-of-39 contests with 13 multi-hit games, including four three-hit contests. Teel has raised his average 66 points over the last 13 games, hitting .440 (22-for-50) with six doubles, three homers, 12 RBIs and 18 runs scored during that stretch. In conference games he is batting .346 (28-for-81) with eight doubles, three home runs, 18 RBIs and 24 runs scored in 21 contests.

After an abysmal start to the season, Andress has picked up his production at the plate over the second half of the campaign. The Spring Hill, Fla., native batted .129 (4-for-31) in his first 11 games this year with no extra-base hits and two RBIs. Over the last 18 contests, he has hit .411 (23-for-56) with four doubles and nine runs scored, hitting safely in 15 outings. Andress has posted multiple hits in seven of the last nine games, going 4-for-7 in two games at Trinity University, 5-of-10 in three contests against Southwestern University and 5-for-8 in three games at Oglethorpe University. He has raised his season batting average to .310 and hit .400 in 17 conference games.

As one of three players to start all 39 games (Teel and Petrocco are the others), Pinson has posted solid offensive numbers for the Tigers. He is batting .301 with six doubles, five homers, 34 RBIs and 29 runs scored, ranking second on the club in RBIs. He also has 19 walks and a team-leading 19 hit by pitches for a .449 on-base percentage. He has registered 10 multi-hit outings and 10 multi-RBI contests this season, including four RBIs against Wisconsin-Whitewater and in the first game of the series at Berry College.

Jennewein started the year batting .206 (13-for-63) through the first 17 games of the season with 14 RBIs and nine runs scored, including a 2-for-27 stretch (.074) from March 11-28. He drove in three runs against Oberlin College, Bethany Lutheran and Covenant College in the first month of the season, showing flashes of last year's SAA Rookie of the Year award winner. The Tampa, Fla., native has found more consistency over the last 18 games of the season, hitting .307 (19-for-62) with 11 RBIs, nine runs scored, three home runs and 11 walks. He has hit safely in 12 of the 18 outings and has reached base at least once in 17-of-18 games. For the season Jennewein has 11 multi-hit and five multi-RBI games (all three RBIs), batting .256 overall with four doubles, three homers, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored along with 18 walks.

Graber has posted a 4-2 mark this season in 11 outings, all starts, working 55.1 innings and allowing 67 hits and 17 walks with 41 strikeouts. He pitched five or more innings seven times, including each of his last four outings. In league games Graber is 3-1 with a 5.89 ERA in seven starts covering 36.2 innings, striking out 31. The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native tossed seven innings against Asbury University, allowing one run on three hits, and gave up three runs on seven hits in seven innings at Berry College. The righthander allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings against Millsaps College and worked six innings at Trinity University and versus Southwestern University.

Kilburn has started eight contests this season for the Tigers, all in conference games, batting .438 (14-for-32) with five doubles, five RBIs and 11 runs scored. He was 5-for-7 with two doubles, two walks and five runs scored in three games versus Rhodes College and added two hits with a double in one game against Millsaps College. The Bradford, Tenn., native started the final two games versus Southwestern University, collecting two hits and two RBIs in each outing, and added two doubles in the series opener and two runs scored in the second contest last weekend at Oglethorpe University.
