Despite 23 points from Taylor, Sewanee falls at Millsaps

Box Score

JACKSON, Miss. (Jan. 20, 2017) Despite 23 points from Bella Taylor, the Sewanee women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start falling at Millsaps 60-50, Friday, inside the Hangar Dome.

Taylor finished 9-of-18 from the floor to go along with six rebounds. She was the only Tiger in double figures.

Despite an early 7-4 lead by the Tigers, Sewanee was outscored 19-7 the final seven and a half minutes in the first quarter.

From there, the Majors maintained their advantage the rest of the way. Millsaps built its largest lead of the game, 14 points, with 6:36 left in the third quarter.

Sewanee would pull to within six after Savannah Rose drilled a three late in the third. However, the Majors answered back with two seconds left with an Amber Newell layup.

The Tigers never got closer than seven points the final 10 minutes.

Overall, Sewanee's offense struggled. The Tigers were limited to both their lowest point total and worst field-goal percentage this season.

Along with Taylor, Corey Caulder finished with seven points and six rebounds.

Forward Kim Klunk led all scorers for Millsaps with a game-high 24 points and seven boards.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Birmingham-Southern, Sunday
