Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. (Sept. 4, 2016) – Four second-half goals by host No. 16 Lynchburg led the Hornets to a 4-0 victory over the Sewanee women's soccer team, Sunday.
The loss is the Tigers' first regular season defeat in the last 12 contests dating back to 2015. Sewanee is now 2-1-0 this fall.
After both teams were scoreless at halftime, the Hornets dominated the final 45 minutes.
Caitlin Mertens, Alyssa Rudy, Marina Clark, and Kennedy Jakubek all scored for Lynchburg. Overall, the Hornets outshot Sewanee 22-5, which included a 14-2 margin in the second half.
Freshman Sofia Olenchek led Sewanee with two shots while Shelby Meckstroth, Baker Walls, and Kiley Ezzell each fired one.
In goal, first-year goalkeeper Samantha Bourgeois finished with a career-high 10 saves.
Sewanee returns to action at Covenant, Wednesday.
