Hendrix uses its stout defense to pull away from Sewanee after halftime

Box Score

CONWAY, Ark. (Feb. 12, 2016) – Having limited Sewanee to a 29.8 field-goal percentage and forcing 19 turnovers, the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Hendrix rolled past the Tiger women's basketball team, 71-47, Friday, inside Grove Gymnasium.

The loss dropped Sewanee to 11-11 overall and 3-8 in league play. The Warriors are now 17-5 overall and 8-3 in conference action.

Both teams were competitive throughout the first 20 minutes of the game. Sewanee started the first quarter on a 4-0 run after a three by Savannah Rose and a free throw from Jamie Chauvin. Unfortunately, Hendrix answered back with seven straight points.

After a Sue Kim jumper and a Corey Caulder layup, Hendrix closed the first with a layup from Sara Dyslin and a three by Estrella Flores. That allowed the home team to lead by three, 12-9, at the start of the second quarter.

Down 16-12 with 6:59 left in the first half, Haley McDonough stopped another Warrior run with a jumper. That sparked a 7-2 Tiger run over the next four minutes. In fact, the Tigers took a 19-18 lead after a pair of Bella Taylor free throws.

Sewanee led two more times early in the third behind a three from Taylor and a layup from Chauvin. However, Hendrix outscored Sewanee 48-23 the final 18 minutes.

Individually, Taylor led the Tigers with 13 points. Chauvin was the only other Sewanee player in double figures with 11 points.

Dyslin dominated inside for Hendrix. The Warrior post finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds. That led four Hendrix players with at least 10 points.

Sewanee will look to get back on track with a 1:00 p.m. game at rival Rhodes, Sunday.
