Behind Kim and Hitchcock's double-doubles, Sewanee pulls away from Wesleyan

Box Score

MACON, Ga. (Nov. 20, 2016)  Led by double-doubles from sophomore guard Sue Kim and freshman forward Allison Hitchcock, the Sewanee women's basketball team earned its first win of the 2016-17 season with a 78-50 victory at Wesleyan, Sunday, inside historic Porter Gymnasium.

Kim finished with 11 points and a career-high 11 assists. Additionally, she added three rebounds and four steals. Hitchcock also played well with a career-high 11 points and 14 rebounds.

They were joined by sophomore Bella Taylor, who scored a game-high 20 points and Corey Caulder, who returned with 11 points and seven rebounds. The other Tiger in double figure scoring was junior Hannah McCormack, who finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. McCormack has now scored in double figures each of the first three games this season.

After a close first quarter, Sewanee started to separate itself from Wesleyan. After Wesleyan led early to start the second quarter, a layup by Hitchcock and a three by McCormack sparked a 14-5 run by the Tigers. From there, Sewanee extended its lead to 10, 32-22, by halftime.

Sewanee continued to play well out of the locker room. The purple and gold opened the third quarter with three straight threes. McCormack, Kim, and Caulder all made outside shots during that stretch. Eventually, that led to a 56-34 Tiger advantage by the end of the third.

From there, Sewanee never looked back. The Tigers built their largest lead, 28 points, with 3:03 left to play.

Overall, Sewanee made 41.6 percent of its shots. That included 42.9 percent of the Tigers' attempts from beyond the three-point line. Sewanee also outrebounded Wesleyan 49-40 and forced 23 turnovers.

Breyonna Raymond led Wesleyan with a team-high 15 points off the bench.

Sewanee returns to action with a 5:00 p.m. contest against Methodist in Lexington, Ky., Saturday.
