Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2016) – After a slow start, the Sewanee women's basketball team rolled past Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Centre, 58-47, Saturday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The Tigers won their second straight conference game and are now 10-5 overall and 2-2 in SAA action. Centre dropped to 4-12 overall and are also 2-2 in league play.

After Centre opened the game on a 7-3 run, Sewanee eventually pulled to within two after senior Jamie Chauvin scored her fifth straight point.

Centre led 11-5 before Sewanee outscored the Colonels 8-3 to close out the first quarter.

The Tigers then took their first lead of the game when freshman Bella Taylor opened the second with a layup. From there, Centre would lead once more when the Colonels took an 18-15 lead with a three from Bonnie Rhule. Sewanee answered back by again closing the quarter on a strong run.

With the score tied at 20-20, Chauvin sparked a 7-2 Sewanee spurt into halftime.

With a 28-22 lead to start the third quarter, Sewanee then outscored Centre 24-11 the next 10 minutes. That allowed Sewanee to roll to the win. In fact, the Tigers built their largest lead of the game with 23 seconds remaining in the third when freshman Katie Roth hit a three.

Overall, Sewanee dominated the stats. The Tigers limited Centre to a 36.4 shooting percentage while forcing 18 Colonel turnovers. That led to 25 points for Sewanee.

Individually, Taylor led the Tigers with 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Along with Tayor, Chauvin finished with 14 points and three boards.

The other Sewanee player in double figures was Katie Wayne, who finished with 10 points. Wayne finished 2-for-4 from the field and 5-for-5 at the free throw line.

Alexis Guy led Centre with a team-high 13 points.

Sewanee returns to action with a 6:00 p.m. game at Millsaps next Friday.
