Late rally helps Earlham top Sewanee

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2014) – Eight runs in the final two innings helped Earlham to a 12-4 win over the Sewanee baseball team, Sunday, at Montgomery Field.

The Tigers are now 4-1 early this season.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Sewanee got on the board with three runs on two hits. In the inning, Michael Walker ripped an RBI triple.

The Tigers then took advantage of two Earlham errors to plate the other two runs.

Sewanee would add another run, an inning later. With two outs, Zack Sutton was hit by a pitch, which scored Walker with the bases loaded.

Unfortunately, Earlham scored four runs in the top of the eight and ninth to take control of the game.

Jack Whaley led Sewanee at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance.

Josh Cornett earned the win for Earlham after he allowed only one hit in 3.0 innings of work. Ben Harrison was tagged for the loss in 1.2 innings on the mound.

Sewanee will briefly step away from the mountain for a Tuesday doubleheader at Johnson University. First pitch is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Knoxville, Tenn.
