Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Jan. 31, 2014) – A fast start helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes to an 81-49 victory over the Sewanee women's basketball team, Friday, inside Mallory Gymnasium.
The Lynx led 17-0 before Savannah Rose made a three with 12:35 left in the first half. From there, Rhodes used a 14-7 run to take a commanding 31-10 lead five minutes later.
Down 50-18, the Tigers kept fighting in the second half. Despite the first-half deficit, Sewanee managed to tie Rhodes in the second half after each team scored 31 points.
Sewanee finished the game with a 42.7 field goal percentage. In fact, Friday marked the third straight contest that the Tigers have made at least 40 percent of their attempts.
Individually, sophomore Casey Hassett led the way with eight points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Additionally, Haley McDonough and Rose finished with nine points each.
Rhodes made 51.7 percent of its attempts, which included a 12-of-27 effort from outside the three-point arc.
Individually, Catherine Eckert led all scorers with a game-high 15 points. SAA leading scorer Lauren Avant pitched in 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block.
Sewanee returns to action with a 1:00 p.m. game at Hendrix, Sunday.
