Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 1, 2013) – Three first-half goals helped Bridgewater (Va.) past the Sewanee field hockey team 5-2, Sunday, at Puett Field.
With the loss, Sewanee falls to 1-1 on the season, while Bridgewater improved to 2-0.
The Eagles got early goals from Megan Gould, Taylor Prillaman, and Caroline Augsburger, which gave Bridgewater a 3-0 lead by halftime.
Sewanee did manage to outshot the Eagles in the first half by a 12-5 mark, however Bridgewater keeper Jessica Balsano turned away every attempt.
After another Bridgewater score, Sewanee finally got on the board when freshman Carrie Anderson scored her third goal of the season.
Later in the half, with the Eagles in front 5-1, senior Karen Dawson pushed a shot past the keeper off a nice crossing pass from classmate Tilden Davis.
Overall, Sewanee had plenty of scoring opportunities. The Tigers finished with game-highs in shots (22) and corners (15).
Individually, Anderson added to her team-leading shot total with seven more attempts.
Additionally, senior Mary Kate McAlister and sophomore Maggie Boozer finished with three shots.
The Tigers will return to action with a 12:00 p.m. (EST) match against Roanoke, Saturday in Danville, Ky.
