Tigers fall to Mary Washington in double overtime

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Maggie Hazelrigg and Molly Haskell combined for two unanswered goals to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth, but Mary Washington's Mackenzie Proffit scored in double overtime, as the Tigers fell Sunday afternoon at Puett Field.

Ryleigh Cabral recorded five saves for the Tigers.

Mary Washington was awarded a penalty stroke with just under a minute to play in the first period, as Mackenzie Proffitt sent the ball into the top right corner of the cage to put the Eagles up by one.

In the third, Makenzie Tutone chipped in a shot from the right side of the goal, with Proffitt collecting the assist. Mary Washington led 2-0.

Sewanee scored its first goal off a penalty corner in the third. BeVier inserted the ball to Keagan Southall, who fired a bouncing ball straight on, finding BeVier right by the goal line for a chip shot with 5:17 remaining.

The Eagles tallied their third goal off a penalty corner, as Hannah Jadgchew took the insert from Teagan Hastings on the left side and slotted it in diagonally. At the end of the third quarter, Mary Washington led 3-1.

In the fourth quarter, with the ball loose in a crowd near the goal, Maggie Hazelrigg took a swing and scored an unassisted goal.

Just moments later, Molly Haskell took a pass in transition from Shepard Ramsey, worked it into the circle and past a defender, and scored to tie the game with just under 10 minutes remaining.

Both teams failed to find the cage in the first extra period. Less than three minutes into the second, Profitt took a shot from short range, slotting the ball underneath the goalie to put the game away.

The Tigers begin a trip to Ohio on Friday, October 16, against Kenyon. The match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT.
