Haskell tallies game-winner in double overtime, Tigers defeat Marian

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Molly Haskell scored two goals, including the game-winner, while Shepard Ramsey added two goals and an assist, as the Sewanee Tigers defeated Marian University in double overtime, 4-3.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 10-4, their first time reaching double-digit wins since 2018.

Sewanee out-shot Marian 25-6, including 16-3 on target. Marian keeper Emilee Clary recorded 11 saves.

With under two minutes to go in the first quarter, Natalie BeVier swung the ball by the goal line, which took a deflection. Ramsey located the loose ball and chipped it in by a defender to put the Tigers up 1-0.

The Sabres equalized early in the third, with Addelyn Gross scoring a short-range goal from the left side, and Cielo Martinez assisting.

At 6:06 in the third, Ramsey connected on a penalty stroke, and Sewanee led 2-1. Late in the period, Marian's Bernardita Antunez took a short cross from Cielo Martinez along the goal line and tapped it in to tie the match.

In the fourth, Haskell had a shot saved by Marian's goalie, but she rebounded the save and connected to put Sewanee up 3-2 with 12:41 left.

Nearly seven minutes later, Charlotte Touw tied the match for the Sabres from distance, taking a penalty corner from Shaelyn Klassen and eventually forcing overtime.

It took close to 14 minutes of extra time for anyone to score.

In the second overtime period, Sewanee tallied four penalty corners in short order, failing to score on any of them.

Shortly after, Haskell took the ball away on the high press and passed it to Ramsey. Ramsey dribbled the ball inside the circle and swung it toward the cage. Haskell deflected it in point-black for the walk-off goal.

The Tigers travel to Mequon, Wisconsin for another CFHC contest Sunday, October 25 at 11 a.m. CT.
